The TAPPS Executive Board met on November 3, 2026 to review the findings of the 6A-1
District Executive Committee regarding a potential violation of TAPPS Bylaws by Argyle Liberty
Christian School. Liberty Christian was represented by athletic and school administrators.
The Board found Liberty Christian in violation of Section 104 – Transfer Rule Part V. Previous
Student / New School Personnel Interaction. This is commonly called the “Follow the Coach”
rule. The bylaw states that a student who transfers to a TAPPS member school shall not be
eligible for varsity competition in a sport for a period of one year if a coach in that sport at the
new school coached or trained the student during the previous 12 months. This includes:
● AAU, select, club, 7-on-7, 6 on 6 or similar team during the previous 12 months.
● Individual or group instruction to the student during the previous 12 months.
● Skills training, fitness training, personal training or other such training to the student
during the previous 12 months.
It was determined that a transfer student-athlete participated on a 7-on-7 team coached by
Liberty Christian assistant football coach Antonio Griffin in the year prior to transferring to
Liberty. Furthermore, the athletic department leadership and football coaching staff knew or
should have known of these facts prior to the start of the 2026 football season.
Part of the sanctions imposed by the Board include forfeiture of the games in which the
ineligible student participated, resulting in Liberty Christian’s removal from the 2026 TAPPS
Division I football playoffs. The eight-team bracket will be redrawn and the first round of the
playoffs will be delayed by one week until November 14 to allow teams to have time to prepare
for their new opponents.
